GRADE 8
HABIT #6: Synergize
Lesson 29 - Trust
Habit 6: Synergize defines synergy as the result of people working together to acheive more. Synergizing is two people bringing their best ideas and then creating new ideas together (1+1=3 or more). This can be great, but what if there is a lack of trust? Without trust, synergy is not possible and relationships suffer.

Lesson 30 - Valuing Differences
|
If you ate your favorite food everyday at every meal for a month, would it continue to be your favorite food? Probably not! If everything were the same, life would be boring...it is diversity that makes life interesting. Habit 6: Synergize encourages us to value differences in people. When we do, differences become a strength, not a weakness.

Lesson 31 - Celebrating Differences
How is a fruit salad different from a fruit spread?
In a fruit salad, each fruit maintains its own flavor. Instead of trying to blend in and be like everyone else, Habit 6: Synergize encourages us to be proud of and celebrate our unique differences and physical qualities. Celebrating our own unique qualities is the first step to celebrating others' unique qualities. When we are on a team, we appreciate every member. Without each member, the team is not as strong. Everyone brings something and has value to contribute. Fruit Salad Activity (coming soon) |
lesson 32 - the 3rd alternative
Even though everyone is different and has their own strengths and weaknesses, when we operate as a team with a shared vision, great things can be accomplished. Watch the Everest Video and discuss how the different strengths and attributes of the team enabled such an amazing feat to become a reality.
The shadow performance team, Attraction, has gained fame and notoriety on Britain's Got Talent. Watch their video on the right and recognize how the the action of each individual collectively results in a big picture you could never see without teamwork. |
Getting to synergy is not as easy as it looks, but if you follow the five steps to the left, you will be on the road to the "High Way." You need to buy into the idea that differences are a strength and not a weakness and that synergy is more than just compromise and cooperation. Synergy is creative cooperation - the result is greater than the sum of its parts...1 + 1 = 3 or more! |
